A guy I knew would say, “Everyone wants to be skinny, happy, and rich!”
I think if you asked most people, they would agree. Almost everyone would like to look better in front of a mirror, have better control of their diet, and have a bigger company or make more money.
Getting in shape, like most things nowadays, is heavily influenced by social media. It is impossible to go on Instagram and not see a fitness influencer showing you the new top 5 exercises for that six-pack stomach.
As you scroll down inevitably someone will pop up with a new diet touting the benefits of eating cow balls and livers or shunning all carbohydrates.
As you continue down your IG or TikTok rabbit hole you will also be taught how to not pay taxes buying luxury watches, 10X our business by purchasing a course, and making generational wealth with some new crypto coin.
The funny thing is, not only does none of the above work, but the actual solution to achieving each is pretty similar.
Want to get strong? Pick about 7 exercises (2 push, 2 pull, and 3 legs) and do them every week for a very long time. Try to eke out a bit more weight or reps on a weekly/monthly basis. After a (longer than expected) time you will be strong and have achieved amazing results. It does not matter which exercises you pick, just pick 7 or so where you can safely increase weight as you get proficiently better and stronger. Want to know why not many people post this on social media? Because videos of someone going into a gym and doing the same thing every week do not get many likes. It's boring and it works.
Want to lose weight? You need to fix your diet, and no I am not talking about starting one of the many new diets always being touted. You need to get control of the amount of calories you are ingesting and improve the quality of the sources of those calories. Want to know the easiest way to do that? Find 6 easy-to-prepare recipes that hit your macronutrient goals, and eat them over and over. Again, want to know why not many people post about this. Because it is boring as fuck and does not make good content. Imagine a video of some guy with his shirt off eating chicken, rice, and broccoli for the umpteenth time. Not exactly engagement bait. BUT IT WORKS.
Want to get wealthy? I wish it was as easy as buying a course, investing in Dogecoin, and then paying no taxes due to a Lamborghini write-off, but unfortunately, that is not the truth. Here is how you do it…spend less than you make and invest the difference. What should you invest in? Something you understand and that delivers an attractive risk-adjusted return. Want to open the options of what you can invest in?
THEN READ.
No, not just social media. Actually, study about an investment class until you are proficient. Until you have a deep understanding of it. Until you can determine when an opportunity for attractive risk-adjusted returns presents itself.
I know this is not the most exciting post. Unfortunately, getting in shape, fixing your diet, and building wealth is not a TikTok video. It is a slow process of each day doing the next right thing and laying the groundwork for that success. It is the same mentality for each.
The beauty of this simple approach is, I believe anyone can improve their life by following it. Embrace the process and get started today, your future self will thank you.
